Matteo Bonfitto is a performer, a theatre director and a researcher. He trained at EAD – Drama School - Sao Paulo State University, and took his degree at Bologna University, Italy (DAMS). He did his Masters at Sao Paulo State University and received his Ph.D. from Royal Holloway University of London – England, developing a research on acting processes in Peter Brook’s theatre. Besides his work as a performer, presented in different countries such as England, France, Italy, Brazil and The United States, he works as a Professor at the State University of Campinas. He published many articles on the work of the actor-performer as well as two books: “The Actor as a Composer” (2002) and “The Kinetics of the Invisible” (2009). In 2010, he was invited to develop a research at The Graduate Center – CUNY, in New York City. He is the artitic director of PERFORMA.
Many experiences contributed significantly to the develpment of his work as a performer as well as a theatre director. Among them it is important to refer to the encounters with some artists, such as: Luiz Damasceno, Janô, Celso Frateschi, Enrico Masseroli, Judith Malina, Josef Svoboda, Onoe Ozomu, John Kalamandalam, Beth Lopes, Yedda Chaves, Gennadi Bogdanov, Yoshi Oida, Tapa Sudana, Sotigui Kouyaté, Gisela Dória, J.Ed Araiza, Tom Nelis, Barney O’Hanlon, Leon Ingulsrud, Stephen Webber, Akiko Aizawa, Ellen Fisher, Tom Bogdan, e Lenny Harrison.
